It's the opening of my solo exhibition a week today and it'd be lovely if you could come support. The show is called Laventille and the works are based on my trip to Trinidad last year and pan. Opening night thursday 4th August, 6pm-late at Moving Gallery on leazes road above barkollo. It's next to st James and there will also be some free booze at the start. Jenny

Exhibition - Laventille

 

"As an award winning British steel pannist Jenny Gilberg embraces Trinidad’s national performance tradition, steel pan, from a perspective based in the visual arts. The solo exhibition of documentary-style painting and photography is to be accompanied by a catalogue of Panorama videos providing viewers with a context to the imagery.

 

The exhibition coinsides with the run up to the UK Panorama competition and Notting Hill Carnival, in which Jenny will be taking part. This exhibition brings to Newcastle a behind-the-scenes look at the prestigious Trinidad & Tobago Panorama competition - from a panyard in Laventille to the performance in Queen's Park Savannah."
